Workout for Kate

I've attended a local gym called Omega Fitness here in the Dallas area.  It is an amazing gym that follows many of the training protocols that I really enjoy.  They are also a Crossfit gym.  At any rate, I received a great email from them today, honoring a local member of the gym who has stage 3 breast cancer. Her story is truly remarkable, and I wanted to share the workout in honor of her today.  If you feel so inclined, feel free to make a donation on her page after you hear her story.

Whatever you do today, think of people like Kate and say an extra prayer for them.  To Kate!!!

Pasted from Omega Crossfit & Performance Training Gym Newsletter:

The past few years Omega has participated in the national "Barbells for Boobs" fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. This year Breast Cancer Awareness hits home and instead of linking up with the official B4B program Omega will be holding a fundraiser on Saturday October 26th at 9am for one of our own, Kate Weber.

Kate is a 35 year old mother to a beautiful one year old son. She is one of the most caring sisters and family members anyone could hope for. She followed her dream to get her degree in nutrition and has worked as a personal trainer the majority her whole life in an effort to maintain the upmost health.
On September 12th she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Grade 3 breast cancer. Her mother passed away from this very disease in the 1980's. Kate has done everything in her power to avoid this same fate by living a very healthy and active lifestyle. Unfortunately she is now facing this very real illness.

Kate was also recently engaged to her fiancĂ©, Matt, and hopes to one day both overcome this cancer and get married. It is things like this along with her wonderful baby boy that help keep Kate strong.

Please go and visit Kate's donation page here. We will also be taking any cash or check donations on Saturday the 26th at Omega. The fundraiser will kick off at 9am with a special guest emcee. We will have 2 divisions performing the workout and the winner of each will receive a prize.

The workout we will be performing Saturday was written by Kate and her fiancé Matt and is as follows:

"Kate"
3 rounds for time of:
200 m Run
15 Power Snatches 115/75 lbs
15 Overhead Squats 115/75 lbs
15 Thrusters 115/75 lbs
15 Toes-to-bars
15 Burpees

Performed as a partner workout. Both partners run together, then one works while one rests on the remaining movements.

Again, if you are unable to make it to the workout, please visit Kate's donation page by clicking the following link:

Fitgirl is Going Primal...again..

The past few months have been filled with exciting changes.  I started a new job as a consultant, and for the first time in my professional career, I have a position with a significant travel component.  I was seriously stressing out about eating right and exercising while on my business travels.  I also adopted a primal-keto diet (which essentially is following Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint eating plan, keeping carbs in the 'sweet spot' of 50 grams per day). I tried this eating plan several times in the past, and it just never came together for me.  I think it was simply an issue of where my mindspace was at the time.  I was re-inspired to try it again, as one of my close friends (who is also a co-worker) started following a keto diet (which is very similar), and I saw him drop 30+ pounds in a very short period of time. He is healthy, bloodwork has improved, and body composition is just great. Seeing someone close to me adopt this lifesytle and transform himself was a real inspiration to try it again.

In order to begin eating primally, I had to calculate my macronutrient profile. Then, my breakdown of proteins, fats, and carbs for each day.  It took me several weeks to feel comfortable eating so much fat in my diet.  I'm still transitioning, but I am finding that I eat significantly less at each meal, and I am full and satisfied for HOURS on end.

Anyway, I'm considering starting a new blog devoted to my primal journey. I've found so many excellent recipes that I want to share. I'll post a link to the new blogspot when I'm ready to share.

I can't believe we are in 4Q2013 already!  I have big plans body composition wise to close out the year.  My 36th birthday is 2 days after Christmas, and I have an amazing dress that I want to wear as my culminating event in my transformation.  I'm progressing well towards my goal.

Cheers!
